Since 1952, Light of Life Rescue Mission has been a safe refuge for homeless and hurting people in the Pittsburgh area.  The organization is currently seeking a full-time Intake and Orientation Coordinator to be an initial point of contact, and the face of Light of Life, to individuals who are interested in changing their lives.  The Intake Coordinator will ensure, through the intake process, that men and women are referred to and assisted with a successful transition to the appropriate program within Light of Life, or to other area programs. 

This individual will be a self-starter who is able to work well in a team environment, coordinating with multiple people within the organization, as well as building and improving relationships with outside agencies.  Must be willing to work onsite at the Mission as well as be willing to travel to regional locations to maintain successful partnerships with other programs and their participants.  

Due to the interface with the clients, all jobs at Light of Life require employees to: 

  • Walk alongside clients as a disciple of Christ and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with them through actions and words. 
  • Establish mutual trust and create a safe, authentic environment so that the clients continue to mature in Christ. 
  • Serve the clients in a Christ-like manner and practice a self-evaluative lifestyle. 
  • Resolve all issues in ways that promote the principles of Light of Life while following the processes described in the LOL staff manual. 
  • Exhibit love for Jesus Christ, the staff, and the clients. 
  • Study the Christian Bible and apply the knowledge received/revealed to job duties and clients' specific issues. 
  • Help the clients make choices that are justifiably in their eternal best interest. 
  • Practice Christ-like stewardship of all resources. 
  • Model personal responsibility, accountability, timely reporting and a self-evaluative lifestyle. 

Skills and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Effective and flexible collaborator  
  • Ability to prioritize and re-prioritize within time constraints 
  • Approachable and empathetic, as well as being a clear and direct communicator with the skills necessary to communicate well to clients and guests of the Mission, as well as with peers of partner organizations 
  • Will be responsible for the Intake drug testing process 


  • Must have 2-5 years of experience in the Drug & Alcohol field including working knowledge of Western PA area agencies and programs 
  • An understanding of mental health issues and ability to understand the D&A language and culture 
  • Competent in the use of personal computers, including Microsoft Suite products and the ability to learn new proprietary software 
  • Valid driver's license and clean record 
  • PA clearances
