Since 1952, Light of Life Rescue Mission has been a safe refuge for homeless and hurting people in the Pittsburgh area. The organization is currently seeking an experienced professional as Assistant Director of Programs. Reporting to, and in collaboration with the Director of Programs, the successful candidate will work in all aspects of Programming, administering care with Christian love, understanding and compassion according to the principles of Light of Life. The Assistant Director of Programs walks closely alongside each client-- life on life -- to help the client become self-aware of their issues while creating a loving grace-filled environment for them.  

Light of Life Ministries, Inc. has an operating budget of $7.9 million, 70 dedicated employees, and a skilled Board of Directors. It is an exciting time as Light of Life is in the midst of a Capital Campaign and relocation project. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Overseeing the day-to-day care of the client in the continuum of care, working as a liaison between the Director of Programs, staff, and client to:  
    • Establish mutual trust, and a safe, authentic environment for all clients  
    • Review service plans, ensuring the goals are results-oriented, and interprets the results to help the client to heal  
    • Maintain current and complete case notes and records for each client in compliance with grant and program requirements, and enter all client information into the HMIS and other tracking systems in accordance with their regulations

  • Will have the ability to discern drug and alcohol issues in others,and to teach about Drug and Alcohol prevention and recovery 
  • Skilled at making decisions  
  • Proficient in conflict resolution/peacemaking  
  • Ability to connect well with others and make conversations safe; experienced listener 
  • Time management skills 
  • Ability to self-evaluate and to lead others to self-evaluate choices 

 

Due to the interface with the clients, all jobs at Light of Life require employees to: 

  • Walk alongside clients as a disciple of Christ and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with them through actions and words. 
  • Establish mutual trust and create a safe, authentic environment so that the clients continue to mature in Christ. 
  • Serve the clients in a Christlike manner and practice a self-evaluative lifestyle. 
  • Resolve all issues in ways that promote the principles of Light of Life while following the processes described in the LOL staff manual. 
  • Exhibit love for Jesus Christ, the staff, and the clients. 
  • Study the Christian Bible and apply the knowledge received/revealed to job duties and clients' specific issues. 
  • Help the clients make choices that are justifiably in their eternal best interest. 
  • Practice Christlike stewardship of all resources. 
  • Model personal responsibility, accountability, timely reporting and a self-evaluative lifestyle. 

 

Education/Experience 

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Service/Human Service field with at least 5 years related experience, or Associate's degree in Social Service/Human Service field with more than 5 years related experience.    
  • At least 2 years' supervision experience recommended 
  • Knowledge of drug and alcohol, mental illness, homelessness and poverty issues, 12-Step/recovery strongly desired.   
  • HMIS experience and knowledge preferred  
  • Proficient in MS Office and cloud-based software
