Since 1952, Light of Life Rescue Mission has been a safe refuge for homeless and hurting people in the Pittsburgh area. The organization is currently seeking a full-time Child and Family Coordinator to work in its Women and Children's Program. This position will be integral in strengthening family units by assisting family members to invest in each other's lives. The Child and Family Coordinator will also provide for the care of the children in the program with love, understanding, and compassion.

The Mission is currently in the midst of an exciting building construction and renovation campaign which will afford the successful candidate a unique opportunity to be a part of new programming. This individual will be a self-starter who is able to work well in a team environment, coordinating with multiple people within the organization.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Committed to improving each family's quality of life and working with families to coordinate
    the children's and families' overall care.
  • Meeting with the Programs Care Team and the mothers regarding family's needs and
    working to create family care plans for each family.
  • Making needed referrals for the care of the children as well as the families.
  • Overseeing and operating a childcare program, from infants to 17 years old during program
    times. This includes providing daily supervision of children and their direct care needs.
  • Providing support to the families when needed to help the become stronger as a family.

Due to the interface with the clients, all jobs at Light of Life require employees to:

  • Walk alongside clients as a disciple of Christ and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with
    them through actions and words.
  • Establish mutual trust and create a safe, authentic environment so that the clients continue
    to mature in Christ.
  • Serve the clients in a Christ-like manner and practice a self-evaluative lifestyle.
  • Resolve all issues in ways that promote the principles of Light of Life while following the
    processes described in the LOL staff manual.
  • Exhibit love for Jesus Christ, the staff, and the clients.
  • Study the Christian Bible and apply the knowledge received/revealed to job duties and
    clients' specific issues.
  • Help the clients make choices that are justifiably in their eternal best interest.
  • Practice Christ-like stewardship of all resources.
  • Model personal responsibility, accountability, timely reporting and a self-evaluative lifestyle.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in field of child development or child psychology preferred
  • 1 to 3 years prior experience working with children
  • Knowledge from formal and experiential training in drug and alcohol recovery and mental
    illness preferred
  • Valid PA drivers license with clean driving record
  • Proficient with computers; experience with Office 365 and cloud environments a plus
