Since 1952, Light of Life Rescue Mission has been a safe refuge for homeless and hurting people in the Pittsburgh area.  The organization is currently seeking a full-time Major Gifts Officer to be responsible for cultivating relationships with major donors and corporate support with the primary goal of increasing major and planned gift contributions, maintaining relationships, and advancing large donors' commitment to Light of Life Rescue Mission. Will also assist with donor relationships for Light of Life's affiliated organization, Family Guidance, Inc. Additional responsibilities include development generalist duties, such as speaking engagements, community networking, and donor communications.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Pro-actively develop personal relationships with donors through telephone conversations, personal meetings, correspondence, and soliciting prayer needs, etc.
  • Make every effort to encourage donors to learn more about the Mission by taking tours of the facilities, viewing promotional materials or having personal meetings - coffees, lunches, outings with the Director of Development and/or the Executive Director.
  • Meet specific financial goals by asking major donors to make restricted and unrestricted gifts at the major gift level (typically $1,000+ per ask).
  • Assist with delivering sponsorship commitments for a major fundraising event.
  • Provide support to the Young Professionals Advisory Council (YPAC) and recruit potential members.
  • Create a cultivation plan for each identified major donor.
  • Maintain accurate records of all strategy implementation in Raiser's Edge to ensure effective follow through and develop an evaluation system.
  • Coordinate communication among the Major Gift Team and engage them in a supportive coaching capacity.
  • Ensure that all major/middle, corporate donors are appropriately educated, shown appreciation, and thanked (verbally, in writing, depending on their preference) for their gifts upon receipt.
  • Work with development team and Director of Development to customize and personalize major donor acknowledgments to promote the highest level of loyalty and satisfaction among major donors.
  • Work with Light of Life's Education & Employment staff to help connect them to potential local employers.

  • Study the Christian Bible and apply the knowledge received/revealed to job duties and clients' specific issues.
  • Help the clients make choices that are justifiably in their eternal best interest.
  • Practice Christlike stewardship of all resources.
  • Model personal responsibility, accountability, timely reporting and a self-evaluative lifestyle.


  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in a related field, such as marketing, business, non-profit management or etc., or equivalent combination of work experience and education.
  • Two to three years of employment in a nonprofit, ministry or church setting.
  • Ability and willingness to learn the craft of donor cultivation.
