Since 1952, Light of Life Rescue Mission has been a safe refuge for homeless and hurting people in the Pittsburgh area.  The organization is currently seeking a full-time Intake/Orientation Coordinator. The Intake/Orientation Coordinator provides hope during clear intake and orientation process for applicants to the Men's Residential programs. The successful candidate will provide appropriate assessments to aid in placement within the Mission and make relevant referrals to other agencies if needed level of care is beyond the scope of services being offered by Light of Life. He/she will also provide a positive program experience for participants which facilitates a healthy, addiction free lifestyle.

These responsibilities could include, but are not limited to:

  • Building relationships with referral agencies to work together so that prospective clients hear about Light of Life and chose to come to Light of Life's programs
  • Assesses applicants' appropriateness for program services
  • Completes accurate data accounting for County census data reports
  • Creates accurate records in Mission Tracker software
  • Provide valuable input to the team involved in the care of residents
  • Gathers and records data for qualitative and quantitative analysis

Due to the interface with the clients, all jobs at Light of Life require employees to:

  • Walk alongside clients as a disciple of Christ and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with them through actions and words.
  • Establish mutual trust and create a safe, authentic environment so that the clients continue to mature in Christ.
  • Serve the clients in a Christ-like manner and practice a self-evaluative lifestyle.
  • Resolve all issues in ways that promote the principles of Light of Life while following the processes described in the LOL staff manual.
  • Exhibit love for Jesus Christ, the staff, and the clients.
  • Study the Christian Bible and apply the knowledge received/revealed to job duties and clients' specific issues.
  • Help the clients make choices that are justifiably in their eternal best interest.
  • Practice Christ-like stewardship of all resources.
  • Model personal responsibility, accountability, timely reporting and a self-evaluative lifestyle.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Competent in the use of personal computers, including Microsoft Suite products and the ability to learn new proprietary software.
  • Ability to establish trust and build rapport quickly
  • Comfortable relating to diverse people and personalities, particularly people in addiction and/or homeless
  • Customer/client focused
  • Thoroughness in recording data
  • Works well in a team


  • Bachelor's degree in social work or related experienced; Master's degree preferred
  • Four (4) years mission or ministry experience preferred OR any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of drug and alcohol addiction and mental illness
